The Shadows on the Teche is a must see if you are in the area. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave lots of info on the house, family and the slaves that worked there. The grounds are beautifully kept. To anyone traveling in the area there is so much to see here and LA has the best food . I am a local but sometimes locals tend to forget what an amazing place this is.

Lovely tour and wonderful tour guy Adam ! You must do this tour if you are in new Iberia. We did jungle gardens and Tabasco earlier that day as well.

I’m still thinking about what the tour was aiming to suggest . I Took my husband and our children on this tour we learned about the WEEKS family who owned over 200 slaves. Mary Weeks was a widow who had many children she most likely delegated to her slaves. If making decisions was the hardest part of her day Mary Weeks was just not someone to place on a pedestal of admiration. Also there was a lady on the tour asking the most wild questions she asked what the family did with slaves who were “insubordinate” as if slaves deserved to be there . This tour ultimately taught me the ignorance on why lynching was JUST outlawed in 2022 . Say the truth. Make them uncomfortable ,because it should be ! Mary Weeks piss and shi# pot is original so I guess it’s worth seeing and admiring (sarcasm) . Not impressed . Whitney plantation is a place to visit if you’re truly interested in non sugar coated history and not a glorified home to remind you of your privilege. *Tour was not bad because of the tour guide, btw .*

We passed by this historic home and stopped in to visit. Our timing was off for a tour that day. But the woman running the visitors center, steered us to visit Konrico Rice Mill that day. The next day we visited "The Shadows" for a tour. Our tour was given by a young man, Adam, who knew the history of the property and Louisiana, by heart. Adam gave an enthralling tour, giving the building a persona. Our tour was just myself and my partner. The building is in very good condition, with almost all the original furnishings. There were moments that you could imagine what it felt like in the past. The foundation also has all the records from the family. This home is really a treasure for Louisiana. This is a don't miss attraction for New Iberia.

What an interesting place this was. We were the only ones on the tour that day so we got a really in depth description of the history of the place and the people who lived there. Our guide did a good job describing what life was like during that time period (Civil War and Reconstruction) for the owners of the home and plantation as well as many of the enslaved people who even stayed after the war for several generations. The grounds are beautiful with the huge oak trees and garden area

From beginning to end everyone involved in the tour was kind and helpful. The grounds and the home were stunning. Our guide was knowledgeable and relatable. He did a great job of presenting the story of the home and the land from all perspectives. When visiting historical homes I try hard not to support places that marginalize slavery or fail to recognize and discuss the real culture that existed in history, as all of these aspects come together to give a place its soul and character. Our guide did a great job of that while still making the tour enjoyable.

My wife and I have traveled extensively throughout the world participating in numerous tours with numerous guides for approximately 20 years. Not only was the Shadows an extremely interesting place to visit, but its tour guide named Adam Foreman provided us with the best guide experience we have ever had. He was over-qualified as a guide providing information not only of a historical nature, but, also, over a wide range of related topics including politics, sociology, psychology, and philosophy. The tour was unique; in that, Adam conducted it as a conversation (rather than monologue) encouraging and answering questions and making past events and issues related to the Shadows extremely relevant to modern times. We found the guide so interesting that we remained in conversation with him for an hour after the tour. A tour of the Shadows is highly recommended by us and, even more so, if Adam happens to be your guide.

Take the tour and learn the fascinating history of the home. It's really worth the time and expense. Looking at the place from the outside doesn't do it justice. The stories related by the tour guide about the people who lived there made all the difference.

At the time I went, they were not doing tours inside the house, but they had plein air artists painting various spots outside. Walking the grounds was lovely and peaceful. I highly recommend this to anyone in the area.

We really enjoyed this tour. It was all inclusive. The stories told were about the Weeks family and those that were enslaved at the time. The guide spoke very respectful about all situations.
