Unfortunately what could have been a beautiful day with the family started with frustration through terrible staff. We had never mined and had our children with us. Upon asking further clarification on safety for our small children, the question was met with defensive annoyance and no true answer to our question. “Just YouTube it and you can figure out if it’s safe or not yourself” was just one of the exceedingly rude remarks. She did not even tell us that tools and gloves were recommended or even available for purchase. Our sentiment was that she wanted no part in anyone participating in the mine that day, especially us. Because we had a larger group we still proceeded with mining and enjoyed the actual mine. With supervision, it was absolutely fine for our 3 year old. I hope the staff today was just having a bad day and/or finds a new job.
Found some decent sized points and clusters, mostly just surface scanning. We did dig into a small pocket and it produced several 3 inch ish points. Its a good sized mine area. Wear sturdy shoes
We went on the private dig with Sam and Charlie. It was well worth the price. The guides were knowledgeable and so helpful. The experience was much better than we expected. The public dig area was okay but nothing compared to private dig.
I visited in July of 2023. We had a blast we got there when it was raining and found huge quartz points all over. Also met some amazing people that were there and everyone was so nice! All in all I loved it and am planning a return trip hopefully this summer!
My wife and I visited Avant in July 2023 for the public dig. While hot, it rained hard upon our arrival for a half hour which cooled the air. The rain also washed the dirt away, exposing the material. We walked around and spotted large crystals exposed. We found several softball sized crystal points and filled a dove gallon bucket with quality material. We had a great time and took great rocks.
