The Halsanefshellir cave located at the Reynisfjara beach is a wonderful example of basalt rock formation. Only really accessible when there is a low tide, this giant nook in the cliff allows you to sit / lay under basalt columns that are literally coming at you.
To see the view of them as if they are growing towards you is definitely different to the usual view of them stood up with tourists sat atop them. Be sure to check them out if you have the chance!
Probably best viewed early morning or late evening, A crazy amount of people all trying to take a photo in the cave. Still some nice basalt column formations in the cave, lots of cracks
This whole black sand beach area is other worldly. To be able to walk on the sand and through literally tons of tumbled and polished river rocks up to this cave made me appreciate the wonders of nature. Definitely a must see!
