After touring Mark Train Cave went to winery. Great weather. Ample seating inside and outside. Can purchase 1 oz or 2 oz flights to pick your favorite. They had a small selection of snacks, but you're welcome to bring your own. They also have mixed drinks and a beer selection. They didn't have live music when we were there, but some weekends they do.
Tried some wine while I was there before heading back north. The three I tried were all very good. Bought a bottle to bring home with me. Only downfall was my dad and I had a heck of a time getting the cork out of the bottle. But it was a fun time just to be able to sit and relax for a while.
Wine was good but not very impressed with service, Not a lot of choices on the snacks, but if it was a slow time of year they might not want to get much in. There is a neat kaleidoscope set up outside the entrance, if you go to the cave with kids or don't drink, it still is worth walking over to see it.
This was a beautiful place but more expensive than other area wineries. The personality of the gal behind the counter left lots to be desired, too. We agree that we felt we were in her way and interrupting her. We didn't know how expensive the bottles were until we paid for our tasting and selected a bottle. Most sell local bottles for $10-$20/bottle. This one was $35 and while good, it wasn't twice as good by a long shot.
After studying the menu offerings, we went with the obvious choice, a bottle of Mark Twain Reserve. It is in the semi-dry category.
We started out drinking outside on the patio, but after a few minutes the bee population made us move inside. The inside area is fine. If you do not finish your bottle, just push the cork in tight and take the bottle with you.
Nothing could be better than live wine and live music. We went when Seth Wade was playing acoustic guitar. Peaceful setting with trees surrounding the patio and stage.
Arrived in town and after checking in to our rental, gave the winery a call for their hours. We discovered due to the Labor Day weekend they were open until 8:00 and that we could bring snacks/food if we wanted. We arrived and were greeted by a friendly server (cannot remember her name). We were able to sample 3-4 wines and then purchased a bottle to enjoy on their patio area. There were only a couple of other people there so it was quiet; wish there would have been some music to enjoy.
What a cozy little spot to taste some wine. The weather was amazing! The wine flight choices were well represented!
My hubby had two wine slushy’s. He tried blue raspberry and cherry; cherry was the best!
If you’d like to be greeted with a smile and a friendly conversation about Missouri’s delicious wine, make this stop!
I loved the Mark Twain Red and Roadhouse Red! And yes! I bought a bottle to take home!
This was peaceful and less chaotic than most wineries. Maybe it was the time of day we went… just around 12:30. There were 2 other parties that showed while we were there. Instead of tasting in a tasting room learning more about the wine you are trying you get 4 wines on a flight board. They were out of 3 wines and didn’t have them crossed off of their wine list and instead replaced them with similar wines. My husband and I found something palatable to split a bottle. We sat outside under the gazebo. Wasps were flying around a lot. It was a different experience which is what I was looking for. If you don’t want the different experience stay away. I give it 4 starts instead of 5 because of the wasps and them being out of certain wines but it only coming from word of mouth and not reflected on the wine list.
