点评:The Andong Mask Festival was one of the top highlights of our 2 weeks travelling around South Korea. There are lots of different countries represented, from Asia, Europe and Latin America.
General entry is free! This allows you access to the main stage performances, daily dance parades, stalls selling local food, souvenirs, an international display of masks, local group stalls - some of whom offer free dance lessons (lots of fun!) or local crafts to make and take home. There are also plenty of toilets, lost & found and other general facilities. Because it's free general entry, you can come and go as you please. (e.g. time your entry with the performances that interest you and leave if you need to or wish to eat outside of the festival grounds).
There is also a seperate stage with performances throughout the day which you can buy tickets for. The programme can be found at the info centre or outside of the ticket venue. Tickets are very reasonably priced (so we went to a few shows to see a variety of cultural performers). Seats are general admission, so first come, first served. This means front row seats fill up quick so you will need to arrive early if you want a seat close to the action or one with uninterrupted views for photos.
Do be aware that many of the participating performers do not use masks. Some do, but not a majority. It seems more appropriate to call it the Andong Dance/Music Festival, lol
The festival staff are friendly and happy to help with information on venue locations (it's a large area!), shows, food, etc.
Only downside is that the performance schedule is not finalised until shortly before the festival opens so we had to wing it with our accommodation booking and hope the performances when we were there were of interest. Also, as you can image, hotels book up quick during the festival so always best to book this early if possible.
A great time was had during the festival. We would visit again!
