点评:We were staying at a hotel four miles down the road, so decided we’d walk to Mini Egypt for something to do. In retrospect, we should have stayed at the hotel. First off, they charge 20 euros per person to get in, which, in Egypt, could almost buy you a used car. Then, a “guide” tells us what’s in the park by pointing at a map and reading out the names of the buildings as we both stand there reading the same map. It's not the best start. After he finishes, we’re left to explore the park on our own.
The first “attraction” we look at is a model of some municipal admin building in downtown Hurghada. Yes, that’s right — a scale model of an office block. It appears to have been fashioned from cornflake boxes. There’s a faded sign next to it, explaining why it’s interesting. It isn’t.
Admittedly, some of the other models are more intricate and better put together but the whole place feels tired and lifeless. And, as we wend our weary way around the park, a deep sense of pointlessness sets in. Why are we here? Why are we looking at a 25:1 model of a temple when we could have been looking at the real thing? Maybe this is our punishment for not being adventurous enough.
We briefly consider going on the pedalo ride around the “Nile” but are told that this will cost an extra 5 euros, so we decide our money would be better spent getting a taxi back to the hotel. And so, we leave the park after about 20 minutes (meaning we’ve spent 1 euro per minute).
If you’re really bored and you find a good deal on a website to visit this place for less than the admission price, then… still… do not be tempted. Save your hard-earned cash and go and visit the real Egypt. You'll not regret it.
