Cathédrale notre-dame de Senlis的点评
点评：We visit so many French churches and cathedrals that they tend to blend into each other. I enjoy them all thus mostly don't review them because I find it too hard to "rank" them or identify their outstanding features. However, if you are in Senlis (a medieval town - close to Paris and Charles de Gaulle Airport - with Gallo-Roman walls, interesting walks (you could miss out on tour C), old town architecture, restaurants, etc) then the cathedral is probably my first recommendation to visit. It has lovely stained glass and the Chapel of the Virgin has beautiful blue and gold vaulted ceilings.
What particularly stood out for me this time were placards (in French) displaying the features of 7 Picardy cathedrals (Senlis, Laon, St-Quentin, Soissons, Beauvais, Amiens and Noyon) comparing the glass rose windows, facades, pillars, vaulted ceilings, frameworks, chevets (which are the semicircular, radiating eastern end with an ambulatory and chapels (I didn't know that)) and their plans.
Oh, and in any town, do visit a cathedral if they have one - usually they are free, cool in summer, dry in rain as well as being amazing architecture. I've never regretted it!
