点评:We visited as a family during English half-term, but it was still a school day in Newport. The ship is in an industrial estate and there is limited parking directly outside the building. We were met by a charming gentleman who showed us around everything, explaining the history of the ship and of Newport in a very informative tour.
The ship was cut up to remove it from the mud and the timbers have been undergoing preservation since then. We were taken into the climate controlled chamber to see some of the timbers, including the "knee" and part of the keel where a "good luck" silver coin had been found.
There is an interesting animated film showing the life of the ship. Although the ship is still in parts, they have scanned every timber and created a 3D model of what remains and what the upper parts of the ship would most likely have looked like.
The visit was a real highlight of my day, but they mentioned that they would need at least £1 million more to put the ship back together and house it in a more suitable building. I hope the National Lottery fund and Welsh Government read this and decide to put some money the way of the Medieval Ship project. I also hope plenty more visitors go and buy the guidebook like we did.
