Where is the connection?

点评：I returned to Sale a few months ago, this being my home town and noted a great lot of improvements to the parks and natural areas around the town. I have been in and out of the shopping centre to go to the supermarket- Woolworths... but other than that, I had not ventured inside to walk through it until recently.
We are weeks away from Christmas and I recall that it used to be such an incredible feeling walking through this centre once... you would run into friends or family... it was a place of connection, a place to venture to and even a place of adventures. There was a time that this centre even had a skating rink in it- mostly to temporarily fill a void, but what a great concept.
Christmas is not about the purchasing of the best present, it is about the connection with people. It's a time when strangers say Merry Christmas, it's a time where you hear people singing along to Christmas carols ( gosh - they are the only songs we ever really know the words to), it's a place to be kind and share those kindnesses through charity... and once this centre did those things. You didn't go to spend money, you went for the connection and ... along the way you spent money. There was a time that it was front of house for a charity tree at Target - right at the front of the store... there were wrapping stations ( god only knows I hate wrapping gifts, so if someone wants to do it for me... bring it on), there were events- like fashion shows, art displays, petting zoos... and now... nothing. Are we focused so much on making money that we have forgotten that connecting people and making an area joyous will bring about a healthy and harmonious shopping environment?
