点评:This is one of a series of forts built during the reign of Shivaji. It is maintained by the archaeological survey of India and is, therefore, in quite good shape.
It is reached by ferry from the Alibaug beach. There are several of them making the trip to and fro. In September 2024 the charge was 200 rupees. Once you reach the entrance of the fort, there is a separate charge for entrance. This has to be done online, so carry your phone with you. Also, it’s best to wear footwear that can get wet as you have to wade a short distance in the water to get into and off the ferries. I wore flip flops. Shoes would be a bad idea.
Once inside the fort you can walk right through it and a fair way around it, if you are even slightly adventurous, as walking around it involves climbing over a few rocks. Not very difficult. One can also climb to the top of the ramparts through a flight of stairs. There are a few rusty cannons on the ramparts. Good view of the ocean beyond.
There is a temple still in use within the fort. A few families live inside.
