点评：On a recent visit to Utah I drove Utah Scenic Byway 12 with a group of friends. The road is often mentioned along with the Pacific Coastal Highway, The Overseas Highway, and Monument Valley on lists of beautiful drives in America. It really is beautiful. It winds from Red Canyon past Bryce Canyon, through quaint towns like Tropic, Canonnville, and Henrieville. It passes three great Utah state parks, Kodachrome Basin State Park, Escalante Petrified Forest State Park, and Anasazi State Park. It winds through portions and along the edge of Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. It travels on to the picturesque town of Escalante and then on to the portion called The Hogback where it winds along with drops on both sides and no guardrails. It passes through the town of Boulder, Utah and up to Torrey, Utah, the gateway town for Capitol Reef National Park. It ends at Torrey at the intersection of Utah Highway 24.
This is a beautiful and scenic drive that takes about 2 and a half hours. It is worth the drive, but it also calls for so many stops. With at least four protected federal land areas along the way (Dixie National Forest which contains Red Canyon, Bryce Canyon National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, and Capitol Reef National Park) it is not a highway to hurry through. It also passes by many other sites like state parks, towns, and beautiful vistas. If you find yourself visiting one of the major attractions in the area like Bryce Canyon I highly recommend driving at least part of Scenic Byway 12.
