Inner part of the Fort closed, still worth a visit, but of an adventure clambering about
Fort of Santo António de Belixe的点评
点评：Wednesday 15th October we visited this Fort on the southwestern coast. It is located along the coast between Forteleza de Sagres and Farol do Cabo de Sao Vincente.
It stands on top of the cliff 86 metres above sea level with commanding views across the Bay of Belixe.
Although the inner part of the Fort was closed we were still able to walk through parts of the restored old Fort and around it's ancient stone walls. Were able to see in through a gate where we could see the small Chapel, which was previously dedicated to Saint Catherine but now it is in honour of Saint Anthony.
There is no clear evidence how old the Fort is, however it is known that it was in existence in the 16th century. It contains the coat of arms of King Sebastian (1554–1578).
We spend time, having an adventure, climbing up and down the steps around the rugged clifftop. This gave us the opportunity to see the amazing coastal views and the landscape close up.
There is a long staircase leads from the Fort down to the beach below, we did not brave this bit.
There appears to be a bit of confunsion this Fort is not the same building as Forteleza de Sagres which is further down the coast.
Admission here was free and there was space for parking along the side of the Fort. We parked in a space at the top of the road and walked the short distance down to the Fort.
