点评:Met George through a mutual acquaintance and were glad for the introduction. Some friends had scheduled a Nile cruise with us and we arrived in Cairo a few days before them. Figuring we would hit the usual tourist spots as part of our cruise we tasked George with getting us off the beaten path to some spots most tourists don’t go. Oh, and throw in a food tour as well.
He more than succeeded! The highlight for me was Garbage City, an amazing place that takes care of a lot of Cairo’s garbage. Mostly by hand. Next best highlight had to be Cairo’s huge necropolis or City of the Dead, where folks have moved into mausoleums long forgotten or abandoned by families. The small glassblowing factory in the middle of the necropolis was amazing as well.
George was always prompt, spoke great English, has a deep knowledge of Egypt past and present and, more importantly, skillfully navigated the nutso Cairo traffic without mishap.
He also managed to turn all three days we spent with him into a food tour by taking us to different places every day for lunch and dinner with an occasional stop for shawarma or other Egyptian favorite.
While we asked for unusual stops I’m certain he would do a great job on the pyramids, museums, etc.
And did I mention that we thought he was very reasonably priced?
