Carved entirely out of a single piece of rock in the shape of a cross, this masterpiece is the crown jewel of Lalibela’s rock-hewn churches. Standing in front of it after days immersed in the remote, natural beauty of Abune Yosef felt almost surreal. The transition from the raw wilderness to this meticulously sculpted sacred site was awe-inspiring.
