Great rangers with extensive knowledge & experience about region
Amistad National Recreation Area Visitors Center的点评
点评:We came into town planning to camp to catch the solar eclipse. We drove to one campground near the bridge but it was noisy and also full. Then we checked out another one near a boat launch but that was very isolated and only had 4-6 spaces. So we decided to stop at the visitor center for information. The female ranger (Karla Ponte) we talked to was extremely helpful. She gave us suggestions such as which campgrounds to try and also things to do and see in the area including a ranger night sky show on Sunday night (which we subsequently attended and really enjoyed). We watched an interpretive movie which was very informative about the history of the Amistad Recreational area (second largest manmade body of water in U.S.). We did find a campground (San Pedro/35 sites), albeit primitive, with no running water. The fee was $6/night. But it served our purpose for eclipse viewing!
