点评:It’s almost seven years when I last visited the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia with my family. The rewarding walk brings me back to the photogenic area, including the puzzle-like formation of the kapur tree crown. The centrepiece of the idyllic forest trail, sometimes set amidst rampant mosquitoes, is the phenomenal crown shyness displayed by the towering Borneo camphor trees of Malaysia. Gaze upwards, and you will find the arboreal version of social distancing. During my recent conference trip to Kuala Lumpur, I decided to visit again.
The trails of Forest Research Institute of Malaysia, FRIM, turns out to be permitted only with the company of a nature guide. Little did I know that I could not go alone. When I was turned down from entering, I took a cab from Grab to Kepong Botanic Gardens. That’s an ex-situ conservation place for Malaysian plants. Managed by FRIM, this is an extra gift for me to have morning stroll and birdwatching. It’s silver lining for the refused admission to FRIM. You should go even you have booking for FRIM walk.
Luckily, I could also make a phone call to Visitor Information Centre VIC and arranged a guide on the same morning. The guide is a researcher on soil science, and he told me so much on the trail about trees, fruits, soil and timber. I should not have planned to go on my own.
