点评：Kalimera, die "Strandsiedlung" Káto Zákros ist in mehrfacher Hinsicht bemerkenswert: Zum einen findet man hier die Ausgrabungen des vierten minoischen Palastes auf der Insel, zum zweiten ist hier das Klima so „milde“, dass in der Bucht von Káto Zákros sogar Bananen ohne Gewächshaus gedeihen, zum dritten ist hier Kreta wirklich „zu Ende“ (die "Ansiedlung" liegt im äußersten Südosten der Insel).
Káto Zákros besteht aus einem dutzend Gebäude, davon 5 Tavernen und Cafes/Bistro, 1 Minimarkt und ein paar Unterkünften. Das Tal und die Bucht sind optisch wunderschön wunderschön, der Strand konnte mich aber nicht überzeugen.
Während der Sommer Saison ist Káto Zákros ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Die Mehrzahl sind Tagesausflügler mit Mietautos von den großen Touristenorten an der Nordküste. Auch einige Reisebusse quälen sich die Serpentinen herunter.
Hauptattraktion in Káto Zákros ist die Ausgrabungen eines alten Palasts auf der Zeit der Minoer, der ersten Hochkultur ist Europa und die Schlucht Tal der Toten.

Kalimera, the "beach settlement" of Káto Zákros is remarkable in several respects: firstly, the excavations of the fourth Minoan palace on the island can be found here; secondly, the climate here is so "mild" that even bananas thrive in the bay of Káto Zákros without a greenhouse; thirdly, Crete really "ends" here (the "settlement" lies in the extreme south-east of the island).
Káto Zákros consists of a dozen buildings, including 5 tavernas and cafes/bistros, 1 mini-market and a couple of accommodations. The valley and the bay are visually beautiful, but the beach could not convince me.
During the summer season Káto Zákros is a popular destination. The majority are day trippers with rental cars from the big tourist resorts on the north coast. There are also a few coaches that make their way down the serpentines.
The main attraction in Káto Zákros is the excavation of an old palace from the time of the Minoans, the first advanced civilisation in Europe and the gorge Valley of the Dead.
