Best dive resort in Gili Air!
Blue Marlin Dive Gili Air的点评
点评：Stayed in Blue Marlin Gili Air resort and did fun dives around the Gili’s for about 5 days in total. Transfer from the airport was arranged by the dive shop, consisting of a comfortable air conditioned car ride followed by a private boat to the island. While the boat can stop directly in front of the resort, you may have to alight at the public pier and take the horse cart if the tide is too low. We paid about 200,000 IDR extra for 3 pax.
Resort:
The resort is located directly in front of the beach. One of the things that immediately blew my expectations out of the water was how clean and tidy the premises were. Staff would work tirelessly around the clock to pick up any litter from the grounds and remove leaves from the swimming pool. We stayed in the ‘garden deluxe room with pool view’ and I must say that this is arguably one of the best dive accommodations I’ve stayed in ever. The toilets are spacious, floors are clean and the bed linens are comparable to what you’d get in a good hotel. Something to note is that Blue Marlin is one of the few resorts on this island with completely indoor toilets. If you’re not a fan of the traditional Balinese showers, then this is definitely for you. The room also comes with a TV that has access to streaming services like YouTube and Netflix. Even though the room wifi was a little wonky on the first day, it worked smoothly for the remainder of our stay. Drying racks are provided for every room too.
Location:
Initially, we were on the fence about choosing to stay here as it seemed to be quite some distance from the main street (public pier). However, our worries were quashed as there were fantastic dining choices on either side of the resort. PJ’s bar and grill which is just in front of the resort serves delicious local and western selections. If you wish to explore further, there is a bicycle rental shop just beside the resort which offers bicycle rentals at 50,000 IDR for 24 hours.
Diving:
Before coming here, we heard mixed reviews about the diving with regards to the marine life here. While there are some sites with dead/ broken coral (I cannot remember these sites specifically but they were on the West of Gili Air), sites towards the North were phenomenal. Some stand outs were: shark point and turtle haven. Both of which have landscapes completely covered in healthy and colourful coral, similar to what you would see in Komodo national park. Turtles/ baby sharks are a common sight around the Gili’s and for the macro lovers, there is no shortage of tiny crustaceans and pgymy seahorses for you to hunt for. Visibility is fantastic even in the low season and water temperatures hover at around 30 degrees celcius. Diving here is akin to diving in a fish tank- lots of fish with calm waters. If you are looking for stronger current-high adrenaline dives, the dive guides will know where to take you!
In terms of the diving logistics, diving is done from one of the many spacious boats owned by Blue Marlin. The boats depart at 9am, 11:30am (except on Fridays) and 2:30pm, with surface interval done back on land. All the dive sites are also less than 25 minutes away so that time spent on boats is minimised. The rental equipment are in perfect condition and is also included in the diving price! Personal equipment can be left to dry in the dive shop’s equipment room
Service:
As usual, no review is complete without complimenting the phenomenal service and professionalism displayed by the staff. We dove with Ari for all our 5 days here and never once did we feel unsafe. He always made sure that we were comfortable during the dives and also knew when to call off a dive should conditions become too unfavourable. Although I did not do a course here, I observed that many of the instructors here are really friendly and encouraging. This, and the fact that the dive sites here are mostly beginner friendly, make it the perfect place to do your OWD or DSD.
Blue Marlin Gili Air Resort is one of the best, if not the best dive resorts that I have ever been to in SEA. I cannot recommend this place enough so look no further and book your next dive holiday with them now!
