We were greeted with tea, cookies, and easy conversation that set the tone for the rest of our visit. From there, we joined Hussein and Havva in the kitchen to prepare a lunch together. Hussein stood out from the start. He has a great sense of humor, sharp observations, and a way of making everyone feel comfortable and engaged. Cooking with him was both fun and effortless.
Havva, with her calm presence and quiet wisdom, guided us through each recipe like a true pro. She reminded me of being in the kitchen with my own family. We prepared red lentil soup, meat-stuffed eggplant, and dolaz with honey, all simple yet deeply satisfying dishes that we ate afterwards.
Tolga also took time to show us his bee hives and shared stories about their land and home, adding another meaningful layer to the experience. We were happy to meet Mustafa as well, who was just as warm and welcoming as the rest of the family. And he made a great pastry dish for us - I can't remember the name but it was delicious!
