点评:It is amazing how the operators of Monticello so warp and distort history. The entire experience is a disgraceful, one-sided denunciation of Jefferson's life.
Jefferson was not perfect. Like many historical giants, his life had uncomfortable inconsistencies contrasted with his legend. Most students of history know and accept this. Not our shrill apparatchik "guide," who delivered an overbearing, TRUE story: Jefferson was a privileged WHITE landowner whose family ENSLAVED workers. Our “guide” even quoted his RACIST writings as we enjoyed the outside lawn of the property.
Jefferson’s other accomplishments (Declaration of Independence, Vice President, Secretary of State, President, blah, blah, blah), were glossed over as incidental to the main NARRATIVE.
This twisted disrespect of an American icon is a terrible way to spend $166 for a family of 4. It a common theme among other 1-star reviews here on TripAdvisor. The blame is not merely the low-level cadre "guides" but the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, Inc. who runs the place. They write the script, hire personnel, and enforce the party orthodoxy.
Honestly, if the operators think Jefferson was such a terrible person, they should close the place down rather than profit off his name.
Go visit the American Revolution Museum in Yorktown and skip this communist struggle session.
