点评:We spent four hours at this park but were able to get a lot of sight-seeing in, both driving and walking. We decided to skip the walk to Elephant Rock - it was the first place we hit after paying our State Park fee (we came in on the east entrance). Our big interest was the petroglyphs, and we saw a number of them, some of which were being protected and some that just seemed to be abandoned. Perhaps the most famous petroglyphs are at Atlatl rock - they are so high up the face of the rock that there is a stairway leading up to see them, but what impressed us as well was that there was a large broken rock behind this staircase that itself includes a lot of petroglyphs, which one can see even more closely than the ones at the top of the staircase, and there are also petroglyphs along the lower part of the rock. In driving in the State Park there are a number of dips, and it really is quite impressive to go to the top of the dip and all of a sudden find yourself going almost straight down, with varied colored hills on both sides. As we were visiting one of the areas with the petroglyphs of ancient desert bighorns, we saw a contemporary one walking by, so it was quite exciting to see that juxtaposition. We walked the Mouse’s Tank Trail, which is not that long but full of lots of recesses/small caves and even some petroglyphs – definitely an area that would have been quite magical in ancient times if lit up by small fires. The visitor center was not open when we were there, it was past 4 pm, but right behind the visitor center there was an area reserved for weddings, and it's a very pretty backdrop.
