Beautiful but don’t forget the insect repellent!

点评：We hired a taxi for 80€ to take 4 of us there and back from our hotel in Golem. This is a much cheaper alternative for 4 people, compared to going on a guided tour of around 80€ each. Thankfully one of us had remembered the insect repellent because there were plenty of hungry mosquitoes around in late September. The park ranger was helpful and showed us some routes we could walk in the 2.5 hours we had set aside for our visit. The peace and tranquillity was fabulous although we saw very little bird life.
We did the lagoon trip, seeing several kingfishers. This is run by a separate company and we were surprised at how little of the area they showed us. The trip is only around 20-30 minutes max and the boatman takes you at speed around various inlets. There is no commentary and the price for independent travellers was 28€ per boat rather than the extra 5€ per person quoted for guided tours. The boat company wouldn’t let us join another pair of tourists who were also there, because they wanted the extra money for taking another boat out, even though they had to phone another boatman to come in and take us round. This spoilt an otherwise lovely experience.
