Gorgeous park, even if you don't see any ponies
Grayson Highlands State Park的点评
点评:We didn't see any ponies but the park is gorgeous. We did a hike on the Rhododendron Trail and the Appalachian Trail which passes through the park, going through rhododendron bushes. Lot of sumac and rock outcrops, some open areas with views of the mountains. After that we went back to the (very nice) visitor's center and did the Twin Pinnacles Trail that starts right behind it. That was a great hike - the park is more known for the balds and the ponies, but this was a short mile and a half hike through very very pretty woods and up two pinnacles. Little Pinnacle had a gorgeous view of the mountains and Big Pinnacle had a view of the rest of the park with the other hiking trails we'd been on earlier. It was one of those hikes with a big payoff for not that much effort. We went midweek in the fall and it wasn't too busy.
