点评:Honestly, I expected more from a trail you are required to have a state trail pass for. The money for the passes is supposed to go towards maintenance. That hasn’t happened for a while, as evidenced by the many pot holes, washed out areas, and sticks and branches laying all over the trail. It’s also been a while since the grass/weeds along the edges has been trimmed and it was invading the path. At best, there is a crushed limestone base and the trail is smooth. However most of the trail is really 2 tire tracks on compacted clay/mud/crushed limestone with grass and weeds along the middle. And bring bug spray - the bugs were really bad. Mosquitos and biting flies will swarm you if you stop in a shady area, and they will be a bit less terrible in the sunny areas.
On the good side, the trail has little grade so pedaling is easy, even for kids. It’s very easily accessible from the trailhead in New Glarus, which also has a visitor center and restrooms. There are ample shady areas along the way, even during midday, and some stretches that are pretty sunny. Overall, a nice trail but really could use some TLC to take care of the pot holes, stickers and branches, and invading grass and weeds, and a new layer of crushed limestone.
