点评：A great hour of exploring these 3 ponds.
We went on a 21 degree day, at 12.30pm and the water was cold but with the right gear it was fine. We hired our snorkelling gear from John at the Allendale East general store - a 6mm wetsuit, hood, boots, flippers, gloves, goggles and snorkel - $45 per person. Try the goggles on at the dive shop to make sure they’re the right size or else you’ll struggle in once in the water. Everything is given to you in a large bag and the boots are to be returned in a separate smaller bag.
There is only 1 toilet in the carpark at the ponds, no changing room or shower.
You can take your dog too, but it must be kept in the carpark and not enter the actual ponds conservation area.
Having an extra person NOT snorkelling was helpful as they could enter for free, take photos and carry your shoes/thongs and towel to the 3rd pond for when you get out.
The walk back is along a grassy, sometimes gravelly track, with either side full of long reeds and bushes. The ranger warned us of a snake spotted earlier along the path.
The $16 permit is per person which allows you to enter the water. Book in advance and allow time to organise your gear beforehand.
