Warren G. Harding Presidential Sites的点评
点评：It’s great. Been to plenty of Presidential sites and this is close to the top.
Went on three different tours with three different guides and three very different experiences, two of them on successive days.
They say “we don’t shy away from anything” and that’s sort of true. But….I heard the phrase “that’s just speculation” ten times or more. I realize they want to protect the meal ticket and they do a good job, often avoiding the issue. Last tour guide, when asked innocuous questions about Carrie Phillips said “well, that’s not really part of the Harding legacy”. Ok, but it’s one of the many things that makes Harding so fascinating. No other administration crammed so much crime/drama/suicides/sex/smoked filled rooms into less than 3 years. Not even Trump! Why wouldn’t we want to talk about that? This guide was way more interested in the wallpaper. Which is great too.
All guides informative and friendly. The house is great. The museum ok, I might have been a little disappointed, but I admit my expectations were likely elevated.
Press house is kinda boring, grounds fine, setting is nice and it is a great experience to sit on that Front Porch.
Just be careful when bringing up any mistresses other than Carrie or Nan, and get ready for spirited defenses about cabinet choices if you ask about Harry, Albert or Forbes.
And I like a lot about Warren. A pretty good guy who loved to love and be loved. And paid a big posthumous price.
