Decent Cottage, Just Okay Festival of Lights

点评：Based on some of these reviews, I was quite nervous that our trip was going to be a disaster and Callaway was going to be a dumpster. This was not the case. We stayed at a two bedroom cottage and it was perfectly fine. It showed some wear and tear, and had some dark stains in the tub drain, but that is typical for an older hotel or cabin. Beds were okay. I enjoyed our time at the cottage and especially liked that we could walk to the Robin Beach area where the "festival" was.
About the festival... I do agree with the other reviewers that the driving part was not great. I expected more lights. They could have done the same number of lights but condensed them to a smaller area and it would have been fine. But, driving 5 mph for over an hour to see what we saw was only fun because I love my family and friends and we were all in our car together with refreshments. If we had gotten on the trolley as originally planned, I probably would have been miserable being stuck out there for that long and waiting in a long line to get on. Since we were staying there, we inadvertently arrived from the wrong way and I believe this helped us skip some of the car rider line, but it still took forever. However, since we stayed overnight (2 nights), the next night we walked back to the "village" and checked out the market and the walk through lights. The market was crowded and nothing special. I could have shopped a bit more if I wasn't with my impatient kids and husband. The walk through lights were the highlight of the experience but I advise get there early! Also since we were staying, we had the chance to walk through the area before it got dark and it was a perfect spot for family photos!
While we were there we visited the lodge and ate at the restaurant/bar which was fine too, went to the butterfly sanctuary and discovery center which were both basically what I'd expect... nothing amazing but cool for the kids for an afternoon.
In all, we had a great time and everyone there was nice. We paid a lot for the cottage and then paid for the festival as well and I think it should have been included in our stay. The lights should be more lights less distance and the trolleys should just drive faster or have their own lane or something so they aren't holding up the cars that could get through the show much quicker considering the areas where there were no lights!
