Small Museum Dedicated to the Great Composer Frederic Chopin Who Lived Here for 3 Months
Museo Frédéric Chopin y George Sand的点评
点评:The Chopin Museum is located at the Carthusian Monastery in Valldemossa. However, it is independent museum and not included when purchasing a ticket to visit the monastery and royal palace. Entrance is 6,00 € and is purchased on-site. It consists of a couple rooms dedicated to the great Polish composer Frederic Chopin and his significant other writer George Sand who lived in these rooms at the former monastery during the winter of 1838-39 with hopes that Chopin would benefit from the mild weather and would recover from his chronic lung disease. However, the locals on Mallorca weren't too welcoming of their relationship forcing them to take lodgings at this location. The weather that winter was poor and after an unhappy time, they left after just 3 months. Nevertheless, the museum is here. You will see personal artifacts of both men including music sheets and letters, but the highlight is seeing the piano that was actually used by Chopin while staying here. There is also a lovely garden offering nice views of the surrounding countryside. Worthwhile to visit if you are a big fan of Chopin or George Sand, otherwise seeing this museum didn't add to by experience at the Monastery as there is so much more interesting stuff to see including the monastery church, the royal palace and even a 15-minute live piano concert featuring the music of Chopin.
