点评:Near the ferry terminal in Lyness is the Scapa Flow Museum. Scapa Flow is a large natural harbour in the Orkney archipelago. During World War I, it housed much of the British naval fleet. When World War I ended, the British ordered the German fleet to go inside Scapa Flow. The Germans did not want their ships to fall into the hands of the British, so they scuttled (purposely destroyed) their ships inside Scapa Flow. It was the biggest scuttling ever. During World War II, a German U-boat snuck into Scapa Flow and sunk the HMS Royal Oak. To prevent a similar tragedy, the British constructed the Churchill Barriers, which connected the small islands and made it more difficult to enter Scapa Flow undetected. More recently, Scapa Flow has been used for oil rigs and now, renewable, wind energy. All of this is explained in this excellent museum. Don't miss it.
