Farnsworth Art Museum的点评
点评：The Farnsworth Art Museum is a six-minute walk from the Rockland Harbor Hotel (see separate review) and the main reason a friend of mine from Maine urged me to visit Rockland. It's famous for its Wyeth collection, most of which is in a Wyeth Center that was unfortunately was closed during our visit. However, the main building also has paintings by Newell, Andrew, and Jamie. The works of regional groups of artists provided context and a good overview of the influence of Maine painters in terms of subject matter and style. I enjoyed the exhibits of modern art as well and was struck by how wisely FAM fills its space. None of the rooms were overcrowded, the selections were very different and striking, and I left each area feeling as if I'd enjoyed a plateful of assorted delicacies.
FAM is perfect for those who want to immerse themselves in art but only have (or want) two or three hours rather than an entire day to spend on it. When you're done, pick up souvenirs from the gift shop and get lunch at one of the restaurants in either direction on Main Street. If you're looking for home decor or an unusual gift, check out 365 Gallery and Design Store across the street. It's also owned by the FAM and has small items as well as larger furnishings.
