Crack in the Ground的点评
点评：Surprising experience!! Well worth the trip!!
Getting to this spot can feel like you are really trusting these reviews. It’s remote. You are driving miles through desert brush, then you get to unpaved roads that might or might not be uneven and jarring. You finally get to a parking lot, where there’s a restroom and an information kiosk with not a lot of information. So, you walk on a sandy path completely trusting that you will eventually get there.
Then, you see a few trees and a picnic table… and there’s Crack-in-the-Ground to the left and right!!
To the right, south, there are a few rocks to scramble down and then a sandy path… then the drop in temperature as the walls shoot up above your head. You are suddenly in this totally awesome volcanic wonder world!! (Note: the day was hot at almost 80F and we went during the hottest part of the day, in full sun. It was cool and shaded in the Crack.)
To the left, north, there’s some serious bouldering needed. We didn’t go that way. Someone with climbing skills, good shoes, long pants and probably gloves might have a great experience that way. That wasn’t us.
We were in shorts and sneakers, and had our two small dogs with us. South was totally doable. The hike was about 20-30 mins in. You have to do a round trip.
Leaving, we took Ravens Road and Christmas Valley Road, which was less dusty than our trip up to the site. Highly recommend stopping and the Sinclair gas station either going up or coming back for water and ice creams. It’s a full service grocery store.

我们穿着短裤和运动鞋，还带着两只小狗。往南走完全没问题。徒步大约需要20-30分钟。必须往返。
离开时，我们走了雷文斯路和圣诞谷路，这条路比我们上山的路尘土少。强烈建议在去程或回程时在辛克莱加油站停下来买水和冰淇淋。那里是一家提供全方位服务的杂货店。
