点评:When you visit Sheffield, you will understand why it’s well-deserving of being known as “Mural Town”. There are over a hundred murals painted on buildings throughout the main streets of Sheffield. The murals portray the history of the area, its people, and important events. Mural painting was instituted to boost the town’s economy. Due to lack of funds, the first artist, John Lendis, took three months to paint and did so on a “paint now, pay later” agreement. The mural was of a mountaineer sharing his home with animals, took 3 months to paint and was officially opened in 1986. Every year since 2003 there is a Mural Fest where artists are invited to submit an example of what they would like to paint. From the entries, nine are chosen to paint in Mural Park. Some of my favorites include “Forth Falls”, “Stillness and Warmth”, and “Cradle Mountain Beauty”.
