The livestock enjoy a healthy farm/free range setting and the crops are used to feed them throughout the year. Barn chores are done each day at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Everyone is invited--especially children--to help feed the livestock, which includes horses, cows, sheep, pigs donkeys, chickens, ducks and turkeys, collect eggs and work in the garden. The farm is a training ground for sustainable agriculture, gardening, canning, blacksmithing, animal care, baking, farm-to-table cooking, sewing and quilting. Two farmhouses on the property serve as museums and offer a glimpse into how families lived in the 1920s with additional buildings that include a huge barn, a blacksmith shop, a corn crib and chicken coops. The farm draws upon a wide range of resources such as beekeepers, master gardeners, farm professionals and home economics experts to explain the inner workings of farm life. Finally, you can visit the Gibson Farmhouse to purchase beef, pork, eggs and seasonal fruits and vegetables. The farm is open from 10 to 5 daily from April to October and from 10 to 4 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from November through March.
