Much better than we were expecting

点评：It's many years since we last sailed with CalMac but having seen the series last year about the company and their ongoing problems with ferries, it was with some trepidation that we set out from Ullapool on a round trip through the Outer Hebrides - using 4 separate ferries until we returned to Oban. I booked online and was kept informed when there was a ferry time change.
Each ferry was on time, and the journeys went smoothly, with no hitches. The services on each vary according to the length of trip and size of boat, so the Eriskay - Barra ferry was basic, but it still has toilets and a small waiting area, and you can stay in your car.
Each terminal also has a different set up for check in, car parking, toilet and waiting area. Ullapool is perhaps the worst as there were no toilets I could see in the car park, or waiting room. The car parking was also a challenge, being tight, but when you see the town, it's not surprising.
There is food on a couple of the larger, longer journey ferries. We only had a drink and 2 machines were not all working. The hot chocolate was terrible and thin. Foot passengers had to disembark via the car deck at Stornoway as the footbridge is (and has been )out of action for some time, so they had to wait longer.
Good observation decks on the larger boats. I saw a minke whale and dolphins on the Stornoway crossing and dolphins on the Barra - Oban crossing.
