Great potential but currently run down

点评：We were holidaying in Devon and have family who live in Cornwall so decided to meet here for a day out.
We visited over the Halloween half term so the usual trip through the mine on the train was replaced by a spooky train ride through the mine. This was not an issue so we booked our £6.50ea tickets which was good value especially as it included a walk around the village too
So The Spooky Train Ride - as I say this was good value and all in all an enjoyable trip. The mine was dark with smoke at the entrance and coloured lights etc throughout. The story played through the speakers on the train was fun and a little scary so made the trip engaging for the children. Using the water dripping in the story was a good touch. The driver was friendly and engaged with the children. All in all a fun 30 minute ride HOWEVER I personally would have rather seen the mine and learnt it's history.
After the train it was off to The Ship Inn, the village pub, for lunch. This was a disappointment to say the least. It was overpriced and the service was slow. After waiting several minutes to even see a member of staff I was told there would be a 45 minute wait for a bacon sandwich!! We decided on drinks and snacks rather than lunch and to eat elsewhere.
Onto the village walk about, again this was disappointing. There were very few members of staff to offer directions or historical information. There was a small museum in an old barn and a few sets in other buildings (miners accomodation, blacksmiths etc) but again very little information. The whole place was run down and in need of investment however my family said that it struggled to reopen after COVID and that it was much better before.
In summary;
The train was good value but I would not pay for the spooky trip again, if I were to go again I would ensure it was a normal trip where you could see the mine and historical information.
Plan on lunch elsewhere
Shame on the post COVID issues as with a bit of investment this has the potential to be a fabulous family day out HOWEVER currently I would not visit again.
