点评:Contrary to famous Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, public pools like Sundholl are budget friendly, giving you similar treatment (in some aspects even more), if you don't mind ordinary tile pools surroundings instead of fancy lava stone around you.
During our Iceland holiday we've visited both, Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon, as well Laugardalslaug in Reykjavik and Sundholl public pool here in Selfoss, so I can tell and will point out the differences.
The first most obvious difference is the entry fee:
- Blue Lagoon 80-100 $ pp depending on the time you visit, for the basic experience including entry fee, one drink and one face mask,
- Sky Lagoon 50-60 $ for a basic entry - no drinks included nor rituals,
- Laugardalslaug in Reykjavik and Sundholl in Selfoss 9$ (up to 15y and over 66 free, 16-17y 2$).
The second obvious difference is in Blue Lagoon and Sky Lagoon you'll see around 95% tourists, while in public pools that percentage goes for locals.
In all pools it is mandatory to take a wash and shower all naked (without your swimming suit). There're separate men and women areas and you rejoin your party after that in the pools.
Speaking of Sundholl it's located in downtown Selfoss, a small southern town with almost nothing to do, so we didn't hesitate coming here.
The complex consists of one smaller indoor and several outdoor pools.
I suggest first going to a big swimming pool with lanes and temp around 28-29'C.
For me this was very important as I could properly swim in hot water. Remember, in Lagoons you cannot swim, and it gets boring when you only sit and stare in hot water.
Beside this pool, there's another shallow pool for kids with slides.
There are several big hot tubs with temp ranging from 38 to 42'C and a cold dip of very few degrees (highly recommended).
Besides all these, there's a very fair size steam room and sauna.
I cannot attach any photos as it is forbidden to take your cell phone or camera into the pool area (you must leave them in the lockers), contrary to the Lagoons where everybody's taking pics.
To conclude - Iceland public baths are a much better option if you don't mind the ordinary, people's scenery around you.
This one in Selfoss is the best option to relax after all day out and before going out for dinner.
- Sky Lagoon
