Hello Connor ~
I visited MadeWest this past Wednesday, 12/18, to share a beer and some conversation with my friend, Scott, who's apparently a regular at your establishment. It was my first time at MadeWest and may well be my last.
I ordered a 16 oz. Porter ($8) from the server at the counter (Michelle?) and paid with a credit card.
A couple of days later in viewing my credit card statement I note that I have been charged $11.62 for the $8 beer ...???
So I stopped by this a.m. and spoke with the server (man) who was very helpful and, upon checking the transaction, found that Michelle had helped herself to a $3 tip (that's a nearly 38% tip on the $8 tab).
I don't know what, if any, policy your establishment has as relates to tips, but a server arbitrarily tacking on a 38% tip UNBEKNOWST to the customer is, to be kind, questionable. And reflects poorly on MadeWest. If your policy is to let your servers operate this way then, to me, it's a real problem. But if you're cool with that (as apparently you are or else it wouldn't happen) then so be it.
Obviously, I won't be returning.
It's a shame Connor - good beer but shabby customer service. Not a good combo.
