点评：In my humble opinion the Empire State Building and its two Observatory Decks is still the prime observatory platform in all of New York City, simply because it IS still the most majestic and striking Empire State Building!
It has been open since it was completed in 1931 during the height of our worst US Financial crises, our American Great Depression. Many people don’t realize this fact that the Empire State building was struck by an aircraft and did not collapse. In July 1945, a U.S, Army Air Forces B-25 bomber accidentally crashed into the 78th and 79th floors during a very dense morning fog. Thank goodness the day was a Saturday as there were less than 1,500 employees in the tower, normally during a week day there would have been over 15,000 employees. The total number of causalities numbered fourteen people died.
My grandson toured the two observatory Decks, first the on the 86 floor which is open to the air, and then the enclosed deck on the 102 floor.
The Empire State Building is one of the top five tallest buildings in New York City, and it is by far the oldest, as the construction was started in 1930 and completed in a record time of only 410 days and opened in 1931. A speed record that has never been equaled in any large building!
Two types of trivia that I like to mention when it comes to this special building. A researcher from Cornell University researched millions of photo’s, in 2011 and discovered that the Empire State Building: “is the most photographed building in the world”!
Also, UBER studied “UBER Destinations” in 2018 and discovered that among 75+ million riders that it found that the Empire State Building was the most popular destination in the world!
Finally, the Empire State Building has its own ZIP code: 10118.
What we really liked was the Empire State Buildings lobby, as it is still in its’ original design, which is still a very famous and beautiful art deco from the 1920s and 1930s. The other famous New York Skyscraper in this same style is the Chrysler Building, which also remains one of my other favorite buildings. In New York City.
I love the views from both observation decks, but especially of Lower Manhattan and of the streets below the building.
