Misrepresented as a “Guided” Spearfishing Trip — Unsafe for Beginners

点评：I booked what was advertised on Aegean Sea Quest’s website as a “guided spearfishing experience with skilled free divers” for €1,000. The reasonable expectation from that description — especially at this price point — is that a skilled guide would be in the water providing hands-on instruction. That is not what happened.
This was only my second time ever spearfishing, which I made clear to the captain before we entered the water. To be clear, the captain was very kind and accommodating. I fault the company itself for the false and misleading advertisement. I told him I was uncomfortable diving alone and asked multiple times if he would be joining me but he did not. Instead, I received a short land-based briefing and was then left to dive without in-water guidance. The equipment provided — aside from the wetsuit — was poorly fitted: fins were too large, and the weight belt did not have enough weight. For a beginner, this was not just disappointing, it was unsafe.
When I raised these concerns afterward, the company became defensive, insisted the trip was “not advertised” as an in-water guided session, and suggested the wording on their own website meant only a safety briefing. Their communications since have been dismissive and even accusatory, rather than professional. They even threatened litigation, which is a laughable proposition. I'm sure in response to this review that they hoped to silence that they will have some sort of vociferous response (foreshadowing).
If you are an experienced spearfisher who only needs a boat ride and gear, you may enjoy the outing. But if you are a beginner — or booking because the website says guided and with skilled free divers — be aware that you may not get what you expect. I would not have booked this trip had I known the guide would remain on the boat.
