点评:We absolutely loved this tour! We found the location easily by entering the name of the caves and ‘parking’ on google maps, which you need to do for all sights in Slovenia. Book tickets 2-3 days in advance at least. You will walk a lot. The guided part of the tour is at a fast pace up and down the entire way. If you have mobility issues at all, this is not a tour you should take. Arrive a 10 minutes before your start time, tickets are not checked here. The tour starts right at the welcome center (use the restroom before your tour!). They announce your time slot and you and a huge group of people follow a guide downhill for quite a ways to the entrance of the cave. They break you unto groups of 40. To enter the cave, you scan your ticket to walk through a turnstile. Have some warm clothes available as cave temps remain in the 50’s year round. With all the walking uphill and downhill we did not notice the temperature that much (we wore shorts and 2 thin long sleeve shirts). The tour guides stop a few times along the way with limited narration. They explain the geology of the Karst region and history of the caves. It is stunning inside. I can understand why photos are not allowed. They need to keep the tour going at a brisk pace to ensure all the groups get through and stay together. If people stopped to take pictures it would not move at all. Just enjoy the view and appreciate the amount of work it must have taken to build these paths high along the wall of the cave. If you have a fear of heights that is not debilitating you can probably make it through the tour. I’m not a fan of heights and I made it ok. Just don’t look straight down at some of the steepest areas or on the bridge. The guided part of the tour ends and you can choose one of three options: take an elevator back up (not sure where this goes- maybe to the visitor center? but recommend you check before starting the tour that it is working if you have your heart set on taking it), take a shorter path uphill back within the sunken cave, or take a long path uphill back in the sunken cave. We chose the longest one and were blown away by the scenery and beauty. It was just gorgeous. You go at your own pace and can take pictures. It is a lot of walking and uphill but so worth it. Have some water packed for this leg of the tour and remove your layers. You eventually come out of the sunken cave and walk on roads and along farmland. There is a cute ice cream stand to stop at with some shaded seating worth a visit (can’t remember if they took credit card, we paid with cash). Drinks are available. No bathrooms as it is just a little stand.
Overall, we spent about 3 hours in total for the full experience. My teenagers loved it. We packed some snacks for the return hike and enjoyed the beauty of the area. Highly recommend!! We did both this cave and Postojna caves while in Slovenia. They are very different experiences. This one is for the adventurous. All pictures I’ve posted are from the non-guided portion of the experience.
