Never underestimate the value of a great crew!
Dream Yacht Charter的点评
点评：This was a big trip for us that we've talked about doing for years and finally was able to coordinate. We initially booked our charter almost a year in advance with Navigare but a few months before our charter, we found out our new ship wouldn't arrive in time and our charter was moved to Dream Yacht since they recently were bought by the same company. The challenge started then with all of the back and forth emails/calls from company to company trying to understand who's responsible for our booking, what the price was, to ensure we're getting the boat at the time we were supposed to, picking up at the original marina, etc. Not gonna lie, by the time we got to the marina on island, we were already expecting more issues and were on the defensive.
Then, we went to the grocery to meet up with our Chef, Javier, to do the provisioning and from the moment we saw his smile, I felt like this trip might turn out ok. Amanda at the base in BVI was very helpful and took care of us, then we boarded the boat to meet our captain, Alak and I felt confident this was going to be a good trip.
Yes, we ran into some AC issues the first night, which took several people a few trips through the first couple days to resolve. But our captain Alak insisted that it be right for us and ultimately everyone had AC in their cabin and all was well in the world.
Throughout the 7 days with Javier and Alak, we became our own little boat family. Sharing stories, laughing, joking with each other, it honestly was hard to step off of that boat on the morning we returned to the marina. There were tears, hugs, heartfelt 'keep in touch' and several 'until next time, friend'. Somehow the waters of the BVI transformed us all on those 7 days, we came away not just rested, but feeling changed because of the space we all shared together. This crew was now a part of us and we felt like we were a part of them.
Captain Alak, it felt like he hardly slept, he was constantly checking on the boat, mooring ball or checking on us or all at the same time. We had some nautical weather dodging a decent storm and Alak was always calm and in charge, having a contingency plan in place to ensure we still were able to hit all of the spots we wanted on our itinerary and always, always keeping us safe.
Chef Javier has a contagious laugh and zest for life that comes through in his food. We all truly felt the love in each dish he prepared. Coming from a group of good chefs ourselves, Javier was excellent at his craft and always focused on giving us what we wanted.
Ultimately, the experience after we stepped on board the ship, is why all of us discerning travelers keep saying this was the best vacation we've ever had. Certainly, the booking process and miscommunication issues with the booking contact/customer service from Navigare to Dream over the past 3 months was BEYOND frustrating, time consuming and should have/could have been avoided so hopefully someone will take this feedback to improve. However, Alak our captain was so incredible and Javier kept us fed and entertained, which REALLY made our trip go from zero to 'can't wait to go back'. Thanks guys for a memorable adventure and if you're lucky enough to have either one of them on your charter, know you're in good hands.
