点评:OMG!!! I WILL NEVER CHARTER WITH DREAM YACHTS AGAIN!!! THEY SHOULD CHANGE THEIR NAME TO NIGHTMARE YACHT CHARTER INSEAD!
I've been charting yachts for the past 20 years. I've owned several boats but I just find that chartering is a much more relaxing and enjoyable way to sail without all of the ownership responsibilities. I've chartered all over the world but mainly out of North America inc San Fancisco, Mexico and the Caribbean. I've only chartered from Dream Yacht Charters twice, once in La Paz Mexico, which wasn't bad but we had a half a day delay because of a maintenance issue so we decided to charter again out of their USVI base (which has just been closed down because of poor management and maintenance issues) and it was a nightmare FROM THE START. Showed up early because our flight arrived at 8am in the morning and after grabbing breakfast and hitting up the market for supplies we ended up at the USVI base around noon only to find out that the base was a backroom closet. No greeting/welcome room or offices or even a place to set our luggage and grab a cup of coffee, just an surly base manager who looked more annoyed than happy to great us. Told us the boat wouldn't be ready until 5 or 5:30pm at the earliest because it just came back in from another charter. There was no designated safe area where we could sit our luggage, gear and supplies so we had to just leave them outside and with a couple of us looking after everything at all times....for the next 5 hours. Not once did the anyone from Dreams come and check in with us or even give us any updates.
Finally around 5:15pm comes around and we finally get to do a quick inspection of the yacht (not checks list btw...nothing itemized on paper to walk through....this was all done by a maintenance guy working there who looked like he just got off a double graveyard shift and wanted to get through the check out as quick as possible). The boat looked beautiful from the dock until we got on board and noticed several issues including missing deck and lounge cushions. Broken fridge door, and worst, the bow of the dinghy was completely deflated. When we told the base manager about the dinghy he just said thats the only one we have, heres a pump so you'll just have to keep inflating it. Only after threatening to notify our broker and the CG of the inoperable dinghy that they finally agreed to find and patch the leak. That patch didn't even last the first night on the cruise. We we're forced to overnight on the boat because of the delays even though we had arranged for an early orientation (which consisted of a 10 min online cruise instruction that we could have downloaded before the trip) and departure time, so we overnighted on the boat only to find out that the shore power didn't/wouldn't work because of an electrical issue with the boat inverter so we had to run the noisy generator all night.
From the moment we left port we had nothing but problems on the boat. From the fact that the Y-Value on port side of the Catamaran was stuck and the bilge was left full from the previous charter so after day 2 we couldn't use the heads on both part hull bathrooms and there was an undeniable foul stench that permeated both port cabins through the rest of the cruise. Add to the fact that the AC did nothing but blow warm air in every cabin, both fridgurators operated at only 50% and we needed a knife to open on of the fridg doors because of the broken latch. Still missing about a 1/3 of the deck cushions. We kept having to blow up the Dinghy every time we took it to shore and right before we came back to the boats. There was no onboard watermaker (which was in our contract) so we had to lug out two extremely heavy bulky portable watermaker devices from the bow storage chamber, hook up everything and run hoses to the water line just to crank out 2 gallons of water every hour :( After the 3rd day we tried to use the VHF radio to hail another sailing vessel that looked like it was in distress only to find out that required a special code to be able to turn it on, I contacted the base manager and asked him where the code was and he just told me 'he didnt know, maybe we should 'google' it). At that point we we're done asking for assistance from anyone from Dreams and just pushed through the issues and tried to make the best of our planned vacation. When we returned back to base and listed off all of the issues the base manager offered us a meager credit to a future yacht charter (at this point we we're never going to charter from Dreams again) or a very modest refund which we declined and decided to take it up with their corporate office.
After 3 weeks of emailing and trying to call (you can't reach a live person at dreams America or Worldwide) our broker finally received a response back from their HQ saying they wouldn't provide us with any refund amount or any type of compensation because they received a complaint that on one of the days we tied up (for 2 hours) to a private mooring ball that was unmarked as 'private' by mistake. We are now in a legal battle with dreams world wide.
Bottom line, this company has a notorious history of treating their client owned yachts like half dead rented mules. They don't want to bother with even the min service or maintenance because they would risk taking them out of service for several days and miss the charter $$ so its cheaper to rent them out as is and when you do get complaints, either give the client a cheap credit to a future charter (so you bring them back again) or just deny everything and hope they'll eventually go away. THIS COMPANY IS THE CARNIVAL CRUISE LINE OF YACHT CHARTERS. IF you are an Owner of a new Yacht, don't even THINK of putting your yacht into their charter program.....I promise you, whatever they pay you won't come close to what it will take to get your boat back to seaworthy condition, if ever!
If your thinking about doing a yacht charter, ask yourself, would I rather go on a Carnival cruise ship or rent a wooden row boat and row around the islands.....it's pretty much the same with Dream/Nightmare. DONT CHARTER WITH THESE GUYS EVER!!!!!
