点评:What better time is there to visit the most famous home in America. I have visited this famous property many times before but what better time than July the Fourth! As expected my day was crowded and hot and I wanted to make use of my annual pass.
The grounds had a magnificent band playing music, colonial soldiers were explaining their muskets to curious children and we even had daylight fireworks which I missed because I was so engrossed in the museums. Washington's house was simple and elegant, his residence where he died in 1799. I will be looking forward to public displays of the cherry bottles which were discovered recently in the house. All the artifacts and history of the property were magnificently displayed in the museums. I did not investigate the smaller building such as the blacksmith shop and the slave quarters because of the heat. Interesting to note, due to political correctness, the slaves were called "indentured servants". Food was available on site due to the holiday, reasonable prices at $9 for a chicken salad sandwich.
With the beautiful Potomac River outlook, Mount Vernon is a must for anyone interested in the country's first president.
