点评:A spur-of-the-moment change of plans needed a trip across the Clyde to Dunoon. Online tickets have to be purchased several days in advance to allow for postal delivery, so we had none. No problem. We'll get some locally at the ferry port. Except we couldn't find any of the recommended shops open on a Bank Holiday. I was driving, but couldn't look for shops as I had to concentrate on the rather large number of roundabouts along the coast road! Never mind, we'll go to the ferry port and ask.
We arrived and were directed into one of the queues awaiting embarkation. "Can we get tickets?" I asked the attendant. "You can buy them on-board" was the helpful answer, and we were guided aboard. We got return tickets from the friendly conductor. That was in the morning, and the ferry was about half full. We got out of the car and climbed up to the observation deck to enjoy the view. It runs every 20 minutes and takes about that long for the crossing.
After our day trip on the Cowal Peninsula, we got back to the ferry port at about 16:00. There was a bigger queue for the return trip, but we were squeezed onto the back of the car deck. There wasn't room to open the doors, let alone see out, so it was good that we had done that earlier in the day.
The weather had been good all day and there was very little swell, so we had a good ride both ways.
