点评：I’ve whizzed past Sidney a few times on my way to Victoria, but this trip, I finally took a friend’s advice and stopped to explore. Best decision ever.
First off, getting here is a breeze—just a quick 10-minute bus ride from the ferry terminal. The town is delightfully compact, which means you can explore every nook and cranny on foot without feeling like you’ve signed up for a marathon.
The waterfront walkway is a showstopper, lined with cheerful flowerbeds that practically beg you to slow down and smell them. A short stroll brings you to the famous Fish Market, one of Sidney’s landmarks. Beacon Park, a cozy green space, sits right beside the walkway, and the marina (or as I like to call it, “boat-watching heaven”) is less than four minutes away. Along the way, sculptures and benches dot the path, perfect for soaking in the views, the sunshine, and that gentle sea breeze that makes you feel like you’re in a postcard.
The visitor information booth along the walkway is staffed by volunteers who are not only knowledgeable but radiate pure Canadian friendliness. Seriously, you might leave with more tips than you have time to use.
We timed our visit to Glass Beach for low tide—prime hunting time for sea glass treasure. Sadly, the ocean wasn’t feeling generous that day, and we came away empty-handed. But hey—“been there, done that,” and the walk itself was still a joy.
Of course, no seaside town visit is complete without a bakery stop. We tried an all-butter croissant from a busy spot on Beacon Street. Sadly, it was more “meh” than “magnifique,” but the people-watching was top-notch.
Sidney is the kind of place where time slows down. Perfect for seniors, families with young children, or anyone in need of a gentle, sunlit day by the sea. Just remember: come for the views, not the croissant.
