Excellent Small Museum Attached to the Thiepval Memorial

点评：This is a small museum attached to the very large Thiepval Memorial.
We’d stopped at the Memorial not realising that there was a museum. It’s a fairly discreet building, next to the car park.
There is a free section spread out around the lobby area and you can pay to enter the main exhibition section. We were visiting at the end of our day and had run out of time so we just looked around the free part which was excellent.
The best part was the timeline. The chronology of the war was laid out in relatively simple terms on large information panels that unfolded throughout the lobby rooms. This was one of the best overviews of WWI that I had seen.
Another large panel had row after row of faces of missing WWI soldiers. Whilst it was a very sad panel, it was kind of comforting to know that their faces and memories were still being acknowledged and remembered.
If like us, you are doing a self-driving tour of the Western Front, then there is a lot to see in this area. Other nearby WWI sites to visit include Mouquet Farm, Ulster Tower, Thiepval Woods, the First Australian Division Memorial, and Pozieres Cemetery.
