点评:This bridge may be more functional than aesthetically pleasing , but it’s still an incredible work of engineering. Designed by William A Fairhurst, it crosses over the river Tay in 42 spans , took 3 years to construct, and covers 2.25 km - certainly one of the longest road bridges in Europe , especially when it opened back in 1966. It replaced a ferry service, so opened up rapid travel between Fife , and Dundee and the north, and business opportunities boomed. There used to be toll booths collecting money for the privilege of crossing the bridge, but they were abolished in 2008. There’s a pedestrian walkway in the middle of the bridge, which is also used by cyclists. The experience of walking over it is worthwhile, and the far-reaching picturesque views are fantastic, but it is very noisy with traffic.
