I visited the Library of Congress in August 2023. As a native of Maryland, there is so much history in the DMV that I still need to explore. For the love of history, I decided to take a visit and see what’s inside this iconic library.
The building is beautiful, filled with rich history and breathtaking architecture. To receive a timed-entry pass, you can reserve one on their website or scan the QR code when you arrive. Upon entering, visitors must check in with security and go through a metal detector.
There are certain areas open to the public for a quick tour, but you can also request your own library card by asking the service desk for more details. The building has three levels:
Third level: Offers an overhead view of the Main Reading Room.
Second level: The main entrance and central gathering area.
First level: Leads to the tunnel that connects to the South Capitol entrance.
Overall, it’s a must‑see location for anyone who appreciates history, architecture, or simply wants to explore one of the nation’s greatest treasures.
