点评:I cannot believe this antique store got the positive reviews it has here on TripAdvisor. Let me preface my review by stating that I am an avid antique store shopper and traveler. It is not uncommon for me to spend hundreds of dollars at a time in one shop. I usually find that shopping and browsing in antique stores is relaxing for me. That was definitely not the case here.
This was one of the first antique stores I visited in Central Pennsylvania. It was recommended to me by another antique shop across the street. (It turns out the same person owns both shops. No wonder the terrible experience was similar.)
While this shop had some nice items, my experience here was tainted by how I was treated by the shop employees. I had picked up a few vintage hankies I wanted to buy from one of the booths. As I was browsing the next booth, a male employee approached me, grabbed the hankies out of my hand and gave me a number so I could claim them later from the front desk. He had no personality whatsoever and he was definitely not a welcoming presence. A few minutes later, a female employee approached me, and once again, she took additional items I had picked up out of my hands and tried to give me another claim number. She was quite aggressive with me. Neither employee was friendly; they both made me very uncomfortable.
As I continued to attempt to shop, the female employee, who wore a key ring filled with several keys hanging from her belt loop literally paced the aisle where I was shopping, as if to keep an eye on me. Between her pacing, her unfriendly demeanor and the sound of her jangling keys, I was made to feel like I was doing something wrong (like stealing.) That clearly was not the case. I have never been made to feel so unwelcome in a shop. It was reminiscent of being in prison, having a guard closely watch your every move. It was very off-putting and it ruined the entire shopping experience for me. No one wants to be made to feel like a common thief, yet this is exactly how I was treated. The employees literally looked over my shoulder constantly like they didn't trust me. It was a creepy and weird experience. I gave up shopping after walking through a couple of the aisles. What is normally a relaxing experience for me was turned into an unsettling, stressful shopping experience. Regardless of the nice items the shop may carry, it was totally ruined by the prison guard-like employees who watch customers like hawks. It is not a good way to do business. If I could give this shop zero stars, I would. They ruined the shopping experience for me. (I know this behavior was not directed solely at me. It's apparently their regular business practice. I relayed my experience to an antique store employee at another shop and she indicated she, and other people she knows also experienced the same thing on their visits here.)
I was informed by a man at the front desk that the owner of this shop owns two other antique stores in the area. I have no doubt the owner put these awful "anti-theft" policies into place as I was also treated poorly by the "sister shop" across the street. I do HR for a living and I can honestly state that I would not recommend any business that treats customers the way I was treated. It's bad practice. The employees here need some serious training on how to properly treat customers. Their bedside manner is HORRIBLE.
I would avoid this store like the plague. There are numerous antique shops in the area where you can have a pleasant shopping experience with friendly employees. This place isn't it. In fact, if I could produce a training film for my workers on how NOT to treat customers, I would use my experience here as an example.
