点评:Our last visit to Newport was several decades back, so it was time to visit and see the Gilded Age mansions and the architecture of this town. Marble House beckoned me due to its being inspired by the Petit Trianon at Versailles in France. Designed by local architect Richard Morris Hunt in the 1890s for a member of the Vanderbilt family. So lots of history here. On this Tuesday afternoon in October, it was not crowded at all. We took the self-guided tour following the arrows from room to room, from the main floor up to the second floor. We spent as much time as we wanted to in each of the rooms to really see each room and all of its details. Marble House is sumptuous, and its interior stunning! Gold gilding and mirrors and glass and marble and tapestries and paintings. Enjoyed learning about Alva Vanderbilt Belmont's women's right to vote activities.
